What one actual download contained
The approved public test Reel was DLHx_WNoXoY. One response is evidence about this file, not every Reel.
- Inspected streams
- VP9 Profile 0 video, 1080 × 1920, 30 fps; HE-AAC audio, 44,100 Hz, stereo. The response type was video/mp4.
- Download response
- HTTP 200; 11,097,563 bytes; 6.267 seconds from request to receipt of the full body.
- Software decode check
- FFmpeg 7.1 decoded both streams to a null output in 6.119 seconds. Exit code 0; no error text with error logging and stop-on-error enabled.
- Test environment
- October 4, 2026 (Asia/Shanghai); DESKTOP-OC01O77, Windows 11 Pro 10.0.28000 x64, Node v24.19.0. HTTPS POST to ig-reels-downloader.com/api/download; FFmpeg read the response through standard input. This was not a Chrome, phone or editing-app playback test. Different machines and source versions can change results.
The decode check did not reproduce a playback failure. It does not prove support in your phone, editor or chat application, and a codec mismatch is not the only possible explanation for a file failing there.
Check the file you already saved
For a saved file, the command below displays the stream descriptions. Read the lines beginning Video and Audio. FFmpeg may finish this inspection with “At least one output file must be specified” because this command deliberately has no output target; that message alone is not a failed decode test.
ffmpeg -hide_banner -i reel.mp4To run the software decode check separately, use a null output. It discards decoded frames rather than saving another copy:
ffmpeg -hide_banner -v error -xerror -i reel.mp4 -map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0 -f null -If decoding succeeds but your destination app cannot play the file, compare its documented codec requirements with the inspected streams. Only consider a codec conversion after identifying a mismatch; changing the container alone is not a codec conversion.
What the downloader does—and what this check does not
Vidlune’s video path requests an MP4-compatible source and an MP4 remux; it does not promise that every downloaded video is H.264 or provide a codec-conversion selector.
The local inspection and decode commands operate on an existing file and make no new Vidlune download request. They do not consume another download allowance.
A user discussion about a saved Reel appearing as a file instead of a playable video illustrates the task, not a confirmed diagnosis: the original file’s streams and a successful fix were not supplied. FFmpeg’s documentation explains stream copying and transcoding.
Use the instagram reel downloader for a public video. If no file was returned, read the download-failure guide. For the different question of audio conversion, read the audio-fidelity test.
