How to download Instagram Reels on iPhone and Android
To save a permitted public Reel as a local MP4, copy its Instagram link, paste it into the ReelDrop Instagram Reels Downloader, tap Download MP4 and then open the file from your phone’s Downloads location. You do not need to install an app or sign in to Instagram through ReelDrop.
Step 1: Copy the public Instagram Reel link
Open Instagram and navigate to the Reel you want to save. Tap the Share icon and choose Copy link. Menu wording can vary slightly between app versions, but the result should be an HTTPS address on instagram.com with a Reel or post identifier. Do not copy a profile page, Explore page or an address that works only inside a signed-in session.
A quick public-access check can save time: open the copied address in a private browsing tab. If the Reel is visible while logged out, the downloader can usually attempt it. Private accounts, Close Friends posts, deleted videos and region-restricted media cannot be made public by a third-party tool.
Step 2: Paste the URL into ReelDrop
Open the public Instagram downloader in Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android. Paste the complete link into the input and tap Download MP4. ReelDrop validates the address before sending it to the server; only HTTPS Instagram URLs without embedded credentials or unusual ports are accepted.
The server then uses yt-dlp to request the public media. When Instagram supplies video and audio separately, ffmpeg combines compatible tracks into one MP4. Processing can take longer for a large Reel or a busy server. Leave the browser tab open until the download begins.
Step 3: Save and find the MP4 on iPhone
Safari normally shows a download indicator near the address bar after the file starts. Tap it and choose Downloads, or open Apple’s Files app and browse to iCloud Drive or On My iPhone → Downloads. Your Safari setting determines which location is used. The filename is supplied as a safe MP4 attachment name rather than the original Instagram caption.
If you want the file in Photos, open it from Files, tap Share and choose Save Video when iOS offers that action. Moving the file does not change its copyright status; keep the original creator’s permission and attribution requirements in mind.
Step 4: Save and find the MP4 on Android
Chrome usually places the completed file in the device’s Downloads folder. Open the Files app, Files by Google or your phone maker’s file manager and choose Downloads. Some browsers show a notification that opens the file directly. If Android asks whether the browser may download files, approve the normal browser permission rather than installing an APK or extension from an unknown source.
If the file does not appear, check the browser’s Downloads screen before trying again. Repeatedly submitting the same URL can use your daily allowance after each successful server response, even if the device later hides the file in a different folder.
Why the download may fail
The most common causes are a private or deleted post, an incomplete copied link, an Instagram rate limit, a regional restriction, the server’s concurrency ceiling or a file that exceeds 200 MB. ReelDrop reports invalid public URLs separately from content that Instagram will not serve. A busy-server message means you should wait and retry; it does not mean you need to provide an Instagram password.
Each processing job has a 120-second limit. Failed requests do not count against the three-successful-download rolling allowance. If a link continues to fail, confirm it still plays while logged out and try again later rather than submitting account credentials to any downloader.
Video quality, sound and watermarks
ReelDrop requests the best compatible public source up to 1080p. The exact resolution depends on Instagram’s stored version, so a downloader cannot restore detail missing from the source. The returned MP4 includes audio when Instagram exposes an audio track. ReelDrop does not add its own watermark or remove words, logos or attribution already embedded by the creator.
For the quickest path, return to the Instagram Reels Downloader with the public link ready. The page also explains the daily allowance, supported feed-video links, temporary-file cleanup and responsible-use boundaries.
