What the production response actually named
One ordinary request for approved public Reel DLHx_WNoXoY returned this attachment header:
Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="instagram-reels.mp4"- Response
- HTTP 200 · video/mp4
- Received file
- 11,097,563 bytes; declared length matched. Full response received in 5.581 seconds.
- File marker
- The inspected ISO BMFF box marker was
ftyp.
Measured October 5, 2026 at 19:18 (Asia/Shanghai), DESKTOP-OC01O77, Windows 11 Pro 10.0.28000 x64, Node v24.19.0. Method: HTTPS POST to ig-reels-downloader.com/api/download, then inspect the received headers and bytes. This was not a Chrome disk-save or phone test. Different machines and source versions can change results.
Three controlled tests of the filename helper
On the same machine and date, we executed the filename helper extracted from the published source snapshot against three synthetic response headers. These were local tests, not three additional downloads.
attachment; filename="instagram-reels.mp4"- Returned
instagram-reels.mp4. attachment; filename="instagram-reels.mp3"- Returned
instagram-reels.mp3. - No filename header
- Returned
instagram-video.mp4.
All three results matched the test expectations. The last case identifies the helper's current fallback, not a missing-header event observed in production. It also does not prove that a fallback MP4 extension would be correct for an MP3 body.
The reproducible local procedure is to extract filenameFrom from the deployed-source DownloadForm.tsx, provide a response-like object whose headers.get returns each header above, and compare the returned strings. Keep this separate from browser file-save testing.
Name the saved file without changing its format
For a file you already have, use a descriptive base name and keep its existing extension. Renaming an MP4 does not convert it to MP3 or change its encoded streams. A name is a label, not a quality measurement.
This check did not test duplicate-name handling, automatic caption retrieval, browser overwrite prompts or the final name saved to disk. Do not assume the suggested attachment name guarantees any of those behaviors.
A first-party user report about caption-based filenames describes a naming expectation, not a demonstrated Vidlune failure or a confirmed remedy. Our measured response answers a narrower question: which name our server suggested and how our current helper interpreted it.
Use the instagram reel downloader for a public video. For where a downloaded file is stored, see the phone download guide; for inspecting the actual media streams, see the MP4 codec guide.
